Scammer 101: PMG

My first question to the PMG "employees" is: how do you live with yourselves? The very idea of this scam is disgusting. Sometimes I find scams amusing, because many people are incredibly gullible, and a lesson is usually learned by the end of the day.

With this one, however, a lesson may be learned, but it may take a few months of work in order to reach this revelation. PMG's plan is so intricate that I honestly can't blame poor college students for falling for it. I've seen how desperate students can get with all the loans they have to worry about before, during and after their college years.

I always wonder if people like the ones at PMG will get bad karma. I mean, I consider this morally wrong, but do they? Do they think it it's wrong and still do go through with the plan, or do they think that what they're doing is fair because young, impressionable adults have lessons to learn? I really don't even know how to properly respond to this type of scam.

Thanks for posting this, Kenn. I hope that more students become aware of scams like this... for their own sakes.

I saw posters and flyers like these "possibility of making $40,000 a year" around campus. Still, I didn't even bother to read them because I figured they were scams. Anything too good to be true usually is too good to be true. Unfortunately, not many people can tell the difference because they've never experienced a scam.

I remember as a kid my mom received a postcard in the mail promising she had won some great prize if she called the 800 number with the confirmation on the card. She called and they told her all she had to do was show up at some hotel to claim her prize but, about the end of the conversation they added that she had to pay a tax fee for the gifts. Well we pay taxes in Texas and my mom thought this was a normal thing to do. My dad warned her about the scam but my mom was stubborn and she went through with it. I don't remember how much she payed but I remember the gifts that were given to her ... what a joke.

So, since then I've been apprehensive and I simply ignore these type of promises. It's just too bad that there's not much you can do regards these type of scams but informing people that these scams are out there is a great start. Thanks for sharing... this is great.

People like this need to be tortured slowly with lots of pain.

They've been running this scam around here for awhile.I've even seen the signs and the ads that you're talking about. Fortunately, I don't know anyone who has been sucked into this horrible nightmare. Afterall, anything that sounds too good to be true usually is...

University Painters is the same thing!!!!! In fact, a group of students involved in the scam have been burned so badly that the Ohio Attorney General's office is bringing suit against University Painters for almost a half million dollars to pay all the students back.

In fact, CEO of University Painters, Josh Jablon, probably ripped his system off College Pro!!

Fox News New York even did a 7 minute news story on University Painters. Check it all out on this website......spread the word and help current students figure the scam out before its too late!!

Great add on Max.

Wow, after reading

I just deleted a posted reply on here left by one of the PMG people that is actually one of the group that is hovering around campus; he bragged about the wonders of PMG and how they are not a shady group. In his reply he made it sound like he is not part of the group, just a former user of the service. He had his photo on his VOX account that he created just to reply to this post, and he is still one of the people who helps hold initial interviews. He has since removed his photo. If anyone has any questions the validity of my posting here, you can read more in the link above posted by MaxG, and here:

CPP in Vancouver... make sure to read how their staff makes a few posts too.

The list goes on and on. I understand the need for groups like this to do damage control so that not everyone is scared away. If you are a manager or a recruiter for the group. Good for you; you are making money. If you are a poor college student.. run away. Nothing has changed with this group.

BTW: I deleted the posting because I hate SPAM of any kind.

Also R... you know who you are. If you want to create a fake profile to counter bad press about your group; at least make a few fake posts to seem like you are legitimate, and provide examples of how the program has worked for people other than just yourself. Oh and explain why the campus Career centers will not allow your group to take part in any of the job fairs they hold?

I am watching the interviews now. I emailed the school about it, I wonder if they will do anything.
